Role: Props Designer

Ma-Yi Theater Company, in collaboration with The Public Theater, is seeking an experienced Props Designer for our upcoming production of SUMO, directed by Ralph B. Peña. The position requires expertise in fabricating, maintaining, and sourcing props, including consumable items, as well as close coordination with the production team throughout the run.

Responsibilities Include:

• Designing, creating, and sourcing high-quality props suitable for the world of SUMO, capturing its unique aesthetic and functional requirements.
• Training crew to manage and maintain props during rehearsals and performances to ensure consistent quality and usability.
• Tracking, repairing, and replacing consumable props as necessary.
• Coordinating with other departments for safe handling and placement of props.
• Assisting in the strike process by inventorying and cataloguing all props at the end of the run.

Key Dates:

• Production Run: January 7, 2025 (start of rehearsals) Opening: March 5, 2025
• Strike & Inventory: Following the closing date (approx March 30, 2025)

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Props Designer for professional theater productions.
• Strong skills in prop fabrication and maintenance, with attention to detail.
• Availability throughout the run and for strike at the end of the production.
