DESCRIPTION

Roundabout Theatre Company, the nation’s largest not-for-profit theatre, seeks a personable and organized individual to join the company’s Artistic Department as the Literary Associate. The position reports to the Director of New Play Development and is an essential part of Roundabout’s Artistic and Literary work, supporting our pipeline of new work as well as creative development and programming activities.


This is some of what the Literary Associate will do:

Coordinate Literary Activity

  • Document all Literary submissions and maintain Roundabout’s literary database
  • Solicit scripts from agents
  • Research outside productions and readings for consideration
  • Attend external readings and productions in New York and sometimes regionally
  • Coordinate Roundabout’s team of Script Readers and assign scripts/readings
  • Coordinate the creation of Literary correspondence


Contribute to Roundabout’s Programming Process

  • Evaluate script submissions and readings for potential inclusion in Roundabout’s programming
  • Write notes/coverage with an eye to institutional aesthetics and needs
  • Support plays in production through attendance at run-throughs and previews and share feedback
  • Participate in Artistic meetings to discuss season programming
  • Create and maintain relationships with artists and agents


Additional Projects

  • Work with Education to create Roundabout’s Upstage Guide
  • Coordinate research and curation process for The Refocus Project
  • Schedule and prepare season info sessions


General Department Duties

  • Assists in running internal readings, workshops, and residencies
  • Provide support to the general activities of the Artistic Department including, but not limited to opening nights, Roundabout Directors Group, Roundabout Directing Fellowship, Space Jam


This is some of what the Literary Associate should bring:

  • Must have 1-3 years of experience in literary or artistic office, background in dramaturgy a plus
  • Must have working knowledge of new plays/writers as well as more established writers; must also have working knowledge of plays and musicals that could be considered for revivals
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds
  • Must be able to maintain confidential information
  • Must have a sense of humor and a collaborative spirit

This is a full-time position with all standard Roundabout benefits. The salary is $50,000 annually plus any overtime for hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
