The Geffen School, in partnership with Yale Repertory Theatre (YRT), trains and advances leaders in the practice of every theatrical discipline, making art to inspire joy, empathy, and understanding in the world. Reporting to the Dean/Artistic Director (Dean/AD) of David Geffen School of Drama at Yale (DGSD)/Yale Repertory Theatre (YRT) and the Chair of Technical Design and Production program (TD&P)/Director of Production of DGSD/YRT, the Project Manager (PM) is directly responsible for ensuring that the DGSD program within the Yale Facilities managed Dramatic Arts Building (DAB) adheres to authorized scope, schedule, and budget parameters. The PM provides expert-level day-to-day management, coordination, and collaboration with DAB stakeholders and represents DGSD’s interests at meetings with the architect, construction manager, Yale planning/facilities, and contractors during the design, procurement, construction, close-out, and move-in phases while supporting and championing the Geffen School’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) work.
The Project’s goal is to construct a new building to house DGSD and YRT, and a portion of the Dramat and Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) on Yale-owned properties in New Haven, CT. The program for DGSD is composed of an entry lobby, offices, classrooms, meeting rooms, labs, production shops, rehearsal studios, green rooms, a 100-seat studio theater, and includes undergraduate rehearsal studios for the Dramat and TDPS along with offices and classrooms for TDPS. The program for YRT is a 400-seat flexible theater with lobby.
Essential Duties
1. Oversees the execution and implementation of detailed project plans in concert with stakeholders. 2. Manages several routine projects simultaneously and ensures that the design, testing, training, documentation and prioritization objectives are met. 3. Assists in refining and re-sequencing during the implementation and execution phases of assigned projects, as needed. 4. Works closely with business analysts, technical professionals, end users and project stake holders during the requirements, solutions design and implementation phases to develop detailed project plans for implementation. 5. Works on risk assessment, communication planning, development of performance metrics, and project entry criteria. 6. Creates detailed project plans including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful project completion. 7. Manages client expectations and provides issue/risk identification and escalation pathways. 8. May supervise the implementation team of cross-functional project and technical resources. 9. Designs, develops, and executes communication systems to ensure effective exchange of information between project stakeholders, senior management, and staff. 10. Resolves complex project issues that involve representatives from multiple organizations. 11. Complies with standard policies and procedures. 12. May supervise and train junior project managers. 13. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Knowledge of large-scale, complex, planning, design, and construction projects. Demonstrated success in managing complex projects to conclusion, meeting deadlines, and keeping within budget. Knowledge of architectural and construction means and methods, practices, and principles.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Knowledge of academic and performing arts venues which includes, but is not limited to, knowledge of classrooms, lab rooms for theater, production shops, rehearsal rooms, and theaters.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with a variety
of project stakeholders. Highly collaborative style; demonstrated experience and leadership in community engagement. Demonstrated ability to summarize highly complex issues and data for presentation and action.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Flexible, collaborative, and proactive communication skills. Team and community leader who can positively and productively advance organizational transformation. Excellent ability to build relationships with the flexibility and finesse to "manage by influence." Strong influencing skills.
